Known as Mao in Catalan, Mahon is the capital and an important port and marina on the East coast of Menorca. Mahon is a fascinating city that was not always the capital. In the early 1900s the British changed the capital city from Ciutadella on the west coast to Mahon for its strategic position away from mainland Spain and has developed into an attractive port with an immensely deep waterway allowing very large ships to access.
Mahon also has a fantastic covered fish market, lots of stunning bars and cafés as well as stunning cuisine to suit all tastes. With so much to see and do in this bustling city, it is a great day out with the whole family. It is well worth going on a boat tour and taking in Illa del Rei and then maybe grab a lovely Paella in the stunning marina area looking at the beautiful super yachts.
