Forte dei Marmi, Versilia - Tuscany Holiday rentals - villas & holiday homes to rent in Forte dei Marmi

Not many people have heard of Forte dei Marmi! It is a low key yet chic and ultra sophisticated beach resort. Sitting on the northern Tuscan riviera in an area known as Versilia, Forte dei Marmi backs on to the Apuan Alps where marble has been mined for centuries.

Dating back to the 16th century when Michelangelo built a road to transport his marble to the ships, Forte dei Marmi oozes class and elegance everywhere. If you turn your back on the white sandy beach and look towards the town, you could easily think you were in Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills with glitzy designer shops and high class restaurants lining the streets.

During the evening, the trendy beach clubs such as Twiga at Marina di Pietrasanta, swap swim wear for designer clothes as the ubder cool nightclubs swing in to action - Forte dei Marmi is certainly a resort where you can party until the early hours.

If you are looking for sea views, these villas and apartments come at a hefty price and are often taken up by wealthy captains of industry and Russian millionaires. Every Wednesday, the local market next to the fortress, gets packed out with people looking to snap up bargains on desingner label clothing and leather goods. It is also a great place for sampling the local food and wine.

Our view

A beach resort that has to be seen to be believed - Forte dei Marmi is a playground for the rich and famous with its designer shops and expensive beach front villas. However, a few minutes away from the main drag, you can find some great accommodation deals and often in a more tranquil setting within the pine forests.
