The 'third' capital, Alaior is located right in the centre of the island of Menorca and as a result is a fantastic base to explore the whole island. You feel as if everything on the island is within easy distance and the town itself has a pretty old town with loads of authentic restaurants, bars and cafés. Due to its strategic location in the centre of the island, it is easy to travel to the rest of the island by bus and taxis to most parts of the island are not too expensive.
Alaior was founded in 1304 around the old hill Ihalor (hence Alaior) and has lovely old streets and a nice central square, the town is always very clean and a joy to stroll around stopping at the numerous cafés and bars to take in the scene. There are enough little shops to keep you entertained and a kids play area is useful to keep the little ones active and entertained too.
