By plane

Airport transfers from Milan Malpensa to Lake Maggiore are the fastest of all the airport options with transfers taking around 45 minutes depending upon which part of Lake Maggiore you are staying in.

By car

Most people heading to the lakes will fly in to Milan and hire a car. The route from either Linate or Malpensa airports will take you on to the toll motorway - Milano-Laghi.

From Switzerland, take the directions to Locarno which will bring you to the most northern part of the lake on the Swiss side.

By train

From Milan, the journey on the fast trains take around 1 hour. These are the intercity trains that go on to Geneva and stop at the towns on the south-west bank - Arona, Stresa and Verbania. There are local trains that go to Domodossola.

If you are staying on the east side of Lake Maggiore, its a local train service with stops at most of the coastal towns.
