Funen is Denmarks third largest island, situated in the middle of the country it has a population of 470,000 people. The main lanuage spoken is Danish with english & German as a second lanuage. The region has many beautiful & interesting cities, like Tranekaer and Odense which is Funen's unofficial capital. One of the regions claims to fame is it being the birth place of Hans Christian Anderson and they is a airport in Odense named after him. Funen is connected to Sealand, Denmarks largest island by the Great Belt Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world and connected to Jutland, Denmarks mainland by another two bridges. The region a mainly flat, its coasts made up of long, wide sandy beaches and pretty coves. Otterup is one of the regions main beach resorts known for its relaxing atmosphere and stunning beaches. The food is excellent especially if you enjoy fresh fish and seafood. Other popular dishes are Stegt flaesk, a pork & vegetables dish, freshly made rye bread to be washed down with locally brewed beer or wine.
